When traveling overseas consider if the electronics that you currently own will work abroad. Different countries have different technology, outlets and requirements. It is possible to purchase an outlet converter so that you may continue to use certain items you currently own like hairdryers or electric shavers. Here are some things to consider before you pack:
What Internet Service Provider (ISP) will you be using? Search for a local ISP to contact in order to make arrangements before you arrive.
Investigate whether your modem is approved for use in your new location.
Consider whether your current phone jack is appropriate for your new home. You can contact your realtor or current resident of your future home to check for details.
Ensure that your cell phone is configured to be used where you will be living. You might have to trade your current mobile phone for another once you arrive.
Find out what the electrical voltage and plug configurations are in your new country of residence. The standard voltage for European appliances is 220 volts while North American standard voltage is 120 volts. You can purchase “multi-system” electronic or appliances that can operate on either current.
