Passport
Before you get on that plane you will need a passport. To prevent problems at the airport on moving day, make sure that you and your family’s passports are up-to-date and have not expired. Passports are generally issued by the Department of State. However, they can be processed through the Post Office or local county council. Applications may also be picked up at the American Automobile Association and take at least three weeks to process. When traveling, keep your passport in a carry-on bag so that you can easily locate it.
To apply for a passport you will need the following:
Photo ID
Two identical passport photos
Proof of citizenship
Completed application
Small processing fee; $67 payable to the U.S. Department of State
You must apply in person for the following circumstances:
You may have never left the country before—if you are applying for your first passport then you must apply in person.
If your last passport was issued more than 15 years ago.
Your expired passport is not in your possession.
In the event your passport was lost, stolen or damaged.
You were under 16 when your last passport was issued.

You should immediately notify the nearest U.S. embassy or passport agency if you suspect your passport was lost or stolen. Passports that have been stolen may be used fraudulently for illegal entry into the United States .
